og:title and og:description length limits per platform
There is no hard limit in the spec — each platform truncates wherever it likes. Here are the real numbers for LinkedIn, Facebook, X, Slack, WhatsApp, iMessage and Discord.
Key takeaways
- Keep og:title at or under 60 characters and og:description at or under 150 — those lengths survive every major platform.
- LinkedIn truncates headlines at roughly two lines and never shows og:description at all.
- Discord and Slack are the most generous; iMessage and X are the quickest to cut you off.

The Open Graph specification sets no length limits. Every platform decides for itself where to cut your text, and none of them publish the number. These are the working limits observed in the rendered cards, rounded down so you stay safe.
Title limits
- LinkedIn — about 2 lines, roughly 60–70 characters before the ellipsis.
- Facebook — wraps to 2 lines, comfortably shows ~65 characters.
- X — one line on the large card, around 70 characters; the small card cuts sooner.
- Slack — one bold line, about 60 characters.
- WhatsApp — 2 short lines, keep it under ~65.
- iMessage — 2 lines but a narrow card, so ~50–60 characters is the safe zone.
- Discord — the most forgiving, but still wraps past ~75.
Description limits
- Facebook — shows about 110 characters before truncating.
- Slack — roughly 150–200 characters across a few lines.
- X — about 125 characters on the large card.
- Discord — the roomiest, up to ~200.
- WhatsApp — around 80–100 on a single line or two.
- iMessage — about 90 characters.
- LinkedIn — zero. The description is never displayed on link cards.
The one-recipe answer
Write a title of 60 characters or fewer and a description of 150 or fewer, front-loading the words that carry the meaning. That pair fits every platform above without truncation. If something essential only lives in the second half of a long description, LinkedIn's audience will never see it — move it to the headline.

Check your actual lengths
The checker on this site measures your og:title and og:description against these platform limits and flags the ones that will be cut — with the count, so you know exactly how many characters to remove.
